Encounter Student Conference 2016

We all know what it feels like to be drawn into a good book, a favorite movie, or catchy song. What about the Bible? What about dwelling in Jesus? Encounter Student Conference is centered on being drawn away from the world, and drawn into Jesus. We desire this conference to be not just an experience, but rather an ENCOUNTER for students and leaders to come face to face with God in His Word and to do so in community with others. It’s all about students and leaders drawing living water from the fresh well of God’s Word: in dry seasons, in good times, every day. It is natural for human hearts to be drawn towards unhealthy things and to become apathetic toward the things of God. But your spiritual journey doesn’t have to be defined by the ups and downs of life.

Over the course of the weekend, students and leaders will walk together through the 40-Minute study Ignite Your Passion for God to discover how to cultivate a deep desire for the Lord. It is our prayer that your eyes will be opened to the distractions that can undermine your interest in the things of God, and that you discover practical steps you can take to ignite a fire that will propel you toward a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.

Students will be challenged by the biblical teaching, introduced to (or strengthened in) the inductive study method in small group settings, and encouraged to grow in their understanding of God and how His Word can transform hearts and lives. The study topics for this year’s conference include: the heart and its desires, prayer, suffering, and worship, directly from passages in both the Old and New Testament.

Transform Student Ministries wants to build strong relationships and effectively equip those who attend our events. We believe that by gearing the conference toward groups, leaders will leave better equipped to disciple their students and students will encounter God through His Word in the context of community.

We do understand that some students may not have a group to come with but would love this opportunity to study the Word amongst fellow believers. Good news- individual students can still attend! Those who register as individuals will be placed in a small group that is led by one of our staff.

The group requirements for ENCOUNTER will be 4-6 Students per 1 leader. (Those who register as individuals will be placed in small groups with the same ratio).

In order to equip leaders to lead their students through the study material, all leaders will receive the 40-Minute study and an optional training video PRIOR to the event. In addition to this, leaders will be provided with training DURING registration once they arrive and will get to see the first lesson of the study modeled by an experienced trainer during the first small-group discussion time. This training will equip leaders to lead their students through the next three lessons of the study material during the weekend.

ENCOUNTER Student Conference is tailored for groups of students in 7th-12th grade (ages 12-18) with adult leaders. An adult leader might be a pastor, youth volunteer, parent, family friend, etc. This leader will be responsible for the students he or she brings to the event. The group ratio requirement is 4-6 students per 1 leader.

Please note that if a student does not have a group, we want to encourage them to still attend the conference. Individual students will be placed in small groups that consist of other students and a staff member that they will study through scripture with once they arrive so these students will get the same experience as those who come with a group.
