EQUIP Boot Camp 1: BY FAITH (Day 2)

“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”

            -Hebrews 11:6

After our first main session and a full night of sleep, campers are diving deep into their study of Genesis, practicing OBSERVATION, the first step in the Inductive Bible Study method. Observation answers the simple question, “What does the text say?” Seems straightforward enough, right? Observation helps you to slow down and process the information in the text. It is the most important step in studying the Word because thorough observation is the stable foundation of accurate interpretation! Campers will dig deep to discover the main characters in Genesis 1-3 as well as identify key phrases, references to time, and generally seeing the   B I G    P I C T U R E !

The first day of study includes examining the order of creation and the power of God’s Word that called it into existence. Campers will be observing the foundational truth that “God said…and it was so.” His Word creates, brings life, separates, and sets in motion. Is it enough to know that He created the world and called it “Good”?

Last night, David Arthur spoke on Hebrews 11 and the essentiality of living by faith. He pointed out that the “heroes of faith” in the chapter put their trust in “things unseen”(Hebrews 11:1-3, 7, 10, 26-27). Abraham, for example, was instructed by God to go to a foreign land, but he didn’t know where he was going. Noah was commanded to build an ark, but he had never seen a flood before! In the same way, we are required to study Genesis—by faith (Hebrews 11:3).

Much like studying “things we can’t see” in Genesis, campers will encounter many truths this week that will stretch their faith. They are aware that Genesis has some topics that are controversial in our culture today. So, how do we know that what God’s Word says is true? How can we trust the unseen? Do we believe that God’s words that created the world also speak life into our lives today? Faith is key to all of these things.

Would you join us in prayer as we walk in faith this week?

  • Pray for the classroom teachers, counselors, and speakers to be led by the Holy Spirit.
  • Pray that we would learn what it means to walk in faith.
  • Pray that campers will see God’s character in new ways and that they would be moved to worship Him.
