Boot Camp Q & A: Lindsey

We got the privilege to talk to some past boot campers and ask them a few questions about their experience at Precept’s boot camps. We hope you will enjoy!

Boot Camp Q &A: Lindsey

What years did you go to Boot Camp?

My first time as a camper was in 2009. I was nervous because I had only been to one other event and didn’t know a lot of people.

Well, you could say that it went well because I’ve staffed Boot Camp every summer since 2010

Do you remember what you studied the years you were here? What were they?

In 2009 we studied Sermon on the Mount. It was very eye-opening and such a good study on how to walk like Jesus. In 2010, we studied 2 Timothy. Even though I was staff I still learned so much. I got to sit with a table of students and go through the work with them!

In 2011 we studied covenant which really showed me that I need to reprioritize my walk with the Lord. It showed me that I had only been living out the part of the gospel that would get me to heaven; but missed the part about a solid relationship with Jesus and walking fully in the Spirit!

In 2012, we studied 1 Corinthians chapters 1-6. It was so neat to learn about God’s desire for fellowship among believers and living in the power of the cross!

This past summer we studied “How to Have a Marriage Without Regrets”. This was awesome as it became so clear that marriage is all about Jesus and not at all about us!!!

Which one was your favorite? Why?

Covenant was probably my favorite. Studying and learning about how God  takes a relationship with us seriously. Learning that Christianity was SO MUCH MORE than just “eternal assurance” and ALL ABOUT an amazing relationship with Jesus and all that God has done for us- WOW! Completely changed my life.

Do you still keep in touch with people from camp? What are those friendships like now?

Oh yeah- they are AMAZING! We all have our lives and we all get busy, but we do stay in touch. Sometimes often, sometimes not so often, but when we do get a chance to reconnect, it’s like there was no time in between and we can have fun and laugh, but so comfortably have real conversations. Move past the surface level and really talk, encourage and challenge each other!

What are some of the most memorable moments from boot camp for you?

Team time has always been a really sweet time. It’s when you get together with your counselors and your team mates (usually 8-10 people). It’s when you get to sometimes talk about what you are learning, or play games and laugh. You even get to be really good at sports time together, or really bad in some cases.

One of my other favorites is main session. Getting around 130 together in a room and you can just let your guard down and worship the Lord together and study His Word as one group is awesome!!

Do you believe that others should attend boot camp? Why or why not?

YES!!!! You get to leave everything behind for a week and study the Word, and learn how to do it yourself! You meet really awesome people and eat amazing food. What else needs explaining?

What advice would you give to those that are thinking about coming to boot camp?

If you are looking for some time away from everything and wanting some legit quality time to focus on the Lord and His Word, come! It might be a little awkward at first if you aren’t familiar with a lot of people, but if you are willing to push past the awkward it is worth it! If you are looking at the Bible and feeling overwhelmed because you don’t know where to start, come! In the process of studying together we show you how to study on your own so when you go home you can continue studying the Word.

Also, just to be real, I remember how hard it was to be a teenager. There are a lot of opinions, people and doctrines that put pressure on teenagers to believe, like and act a certain way and sometimes it can be hard to know what or who to believe. If you are looking for a place to be able to focus on the Lord and be immersed in His word, I encourage you to pray about whether you should apply to come to Boot Camp this summer!
