I Am Not From Darkness

I Am Not of Darkness

I Am Not of Darkness

First off, I am Sarah Beth. I am 20 years old and a senior at Liberty University and I used to let insecurity dominate my life. I believed lies with such certainty that I could not recognize Truth. I was convinced of all the lies the world was throwing at me. I believed my worth was in how pretty I was or how I looked. Essentially I thought that my worth was tied to worldly standards. I felt that I did not add up, that I wasn’t what I was supposed to be. I believed the lies of the world.

I was convinced that these lies were reality. I lived with a misplaced identity until finally God hit me in the face with the truth I was a redeemed daughter of the one true God. I wasn’t walking in the fullness of that identity because I had believed the world over God’s Word and the result was confusion and darkness. When I realized that I am a child of the Light I knew the need to repent and return to the Lord. I took my confusion to Him and asked for clarity. He is so faithful and reminded me that I am His child whom He loves and that my identity is found in this relationship. He reminded me that He has set my feet on solid ground and I can overwhelmingly conquer (Romans 8:37) lies that come my way. I  can claim victory. My identity is placed in who the one true God says I am. I have value because Christ died for me. I could walk in the Light as He is in the Light. Because I am His, I no longer have to wander in the darkness.

As my brothers and sisters in Christ, I want to remind you that we are children of the Light. No longer shall we identify with darkness but with Jesus Christ, the Light because “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

Know this is our reality as believers, what are we to do?

  • Follow Him- John 8:12 “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
  • Walk as children of Light-  Ephesians 5:8-10 “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.”
  • Because 1 Thessalonians 5:5 “for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness.”

Walk as children of Light! Claim your identity as a child of the powerful, living God who loves you with an everlasting love. Follow Christ’s example. Live in such a way that the fruit of light (that which is good, right and true) is evident in your life. Claim victory. Light always overcomes darkness. After all, you can bring a light into a dark room but you cannot bring dark into the light.
